Boy Better Know - Edition 4: Tropical

This was an experimental and pioneering mixtape by BBK, creating the subgenre of grime ‘Tropical Grime’. The subgenre leaned more heavily towards UK Garage to give it a “tropical”, summery vibe. The subgenre was created to give grime a more dance friendly vibe to it than most other grime music at the time, whilst keeping it purely instrumental.

“Holiday”, “Closer To You”, and “Machines” were also included on Jme’s 3-track EP Tropical.

Tropical would be succeeded by Tropical 2 in 2011 and Tropical 2.1 in 2012.
