Pusha T Explains Why He Thinks Tyga Is “A Genius”

DEK TK

There was a bit of confusion when Pusha T name-dropped Tyga on “M.F.T.R.,” the new track from the G.O.O.D. Music president’s upcoming album Darkest Before Dawn.

On Monday, Genius premiered the lyrics, revealing a curious couplet:

The illusion of money we don’t believe in

You ask me, Tyga looking like a genius

Some questioned whether the line was a jab at the self-exiled Cash Money rapper, while others thought it was commentary on Tyga’s relationship with Kylie Jenner.

Pusha set the record straight by annotating the lyric on Genius.

“I felt he was looking like a genius simply because it takes a lot for you to leave a situation at Cash Money—a label of prominence with a large history of success,” the Virginia Beach MC explained to the Genius community. “A lot of artists would’ve stayed in that situation and carried on with the illusion and with people just assuming that they were doing well because they were amongst that crew.”

To further illustrate his point, Push referenced a 2013 Power 105.1 interview in New York, in which Tyga admitted that he had never received a check from Young Money/Cash Money.

“He wasn’t looking to be more famous than rich,” Pusha concluded, “and he was open to the world about it.”

That’s not the only “M.F.T.R.” lyric King Push deconstructed. He broke down his Rich Porter “quadruple entendre” and how his Bo Jackson lyric connects to Clipse’s 2002 classic “Grindin.’”
