J. Cole and his Dreamville family woke up rap fans last night with the surprise release of the label’s first studio compilation album, Revenge of the Dreamers 2.
The project was announced yesterday (Dec. 7) and slated for a Friday release, but Cole, Bas, and Omen threw fans a bone by dropping it shortly before midnight EST.
The sequel to Dreamville’s 2014 mixtape Revenge of the Dreamers, the new album houses previews of Bas’ Too High To Riot and Cozz’s Nothing Personal albums, plus introductions to new signees Ari Lennox and Lute.
But naturally J. Cole is the star. A highlight is his solo track, “Folger’s Crystals,” on which he suggests he is both enslaved rebel Nat Turner and reggae icon Bob Marley, reincarnated.
