Earlier this year, Oakland-based rapper Kamaiyah premiered her first music video for “Out the Bottle.” The concept is simple and perfect—Kamaiyah and her friends are hanging out at a block party, complete with a bounce house, bottles of Hennessy, and a friendly game of dice. As she dances at the forefront of her crew and raps, “we live every damn day like it’s Friday,” you can’t help but wish that you did too.
Now Kamaiyah is gaining recognition for her second single, “How Does It Feel,” a song about living the good life, with beats inspired by 90’s West Coast rap anthems. In the video, Kamaiyah drinks bottles of Moët, plays N64, and raps into her first generation Motorola brick phone. It’s every 90’s kid’s dream. Whether she makes it big or not, Kamaiyah seems to be having a lot of fun along the way.
