Magnum Opus (Remix) Lyrics

1st verse

I don't do gangsta rap,I'm far from that
It's just not my niche,as a matter of fact
I'll never remove that card from the deck
When I can play the other fifty-one with skill and acute intellect

Twenty years in the game,no deal,no publicity
But fuck it,that wasn't in the plan initially

If fate exists, then regardless of where it takes me
My level exceeds that of any johnny-come-lately

'Cause if I ever build up the Six Sigma stables
We'll be thoroughbreds reppin' more than a record label

As an individual,I'm humble, but to be honest
My rap philosophy is if I got it then I flaunt it

But I keep my range of topics macroscopic but
Occasionally,I get cocky when I write the flow and drop it
Difference is,my delivery's more explicitly
Exquisite,it's evident when I present this exhibit,see

Chorus

When I approach this rap shit ,I'm focused
Compose this great work, spit the magnum opus
Bid hopeless cases buenos noches
And drive the final nail into the coffin when it closes
2nd verse

When it comes to greatness, though you may not want to admit it
I eat,sleep,breathe, shit,and spit it

I harnessed the gift in which I was given
Even if my words are heard by only a few ears,I'm still driven
To reach higher heights while diggin' deep

Simultaneously,I planted the seed
Cream of the crop is what I reap
I'm the clock alarm that shakes and wakes you
Out of a somber state of sleep

Perhaps you ought to consider a different course of action
A different approach altogether when it comes to rappin'
I'm only nauseated by cliches,so I formulate new ways
To set the game forward into a new phase

Shed light with new rays,I bring promise
And come around once in a lifetime like Halley's Comet
So when it comes to gettin' the wheels turning,I'm on it
Stagnation's like emetic, just enough'll make me vomit (chorus)

3rd verse

I'll never simplify the words I use to express
The complex but scientific mind that I possess

That's what sets me apart from the rest
It's like I'm caressin' your throat with a knife when I recite this text
But some would argue that I lack the right to MC
'Cause I'm Caucasian,Canadian, that's two strikes against me

Therefore I'm clueless as to what the truth is
About what other rappers address in their music,I've been through it
I'm not some new kid on the block and I'm far from stupid
So all your non-informed opinions you can spin can be refuted
I gather the facts then state my case
Give you my takes, stand firm in my place
To these fakes,I'm the ultraviolet light that detects 'em
Across the spectrum to the infrared beam that gets 'em sweatin'
Bullets
,finger on the trigger, poised to pull it
And bombard 'em with enough lead 'till their whole capacity's full with it

(Chorus)

Genius Annotation

For a while,I was writing stuff that was meant to be put on a collaboration project with a friend of mine. But I wanted to put together something for a solo joint while he and I did our thing.“Magnum Opus,” if I recall correctly, was the first one that I had written as a solo.

Usually when an artist’s work is regarded as their magnum opus,it is deemed to be their greatest work.I wanted that to be a title of one of my songs but I knew that I would have to go in with it to justify giving the song that title.(Even though I stated on “Furor Poeticus” that “each track’s a magnum opus” as all of my works are great in their own right.) I really wanted to put all that I could into that song and some of the things that I rapped about were echoed in other songs that I just put in different ways.

I did an original track to a beat that I had made. When I was checking out beats by producers who put their beats on the Soundclick music site,I heard one by a producer named Dub’s Attic that went hard.I ended up making a remix to the song and put that on the same mixtape as the original.
