Taylor Swift’s New Album Gave Genius Its Biggest Traffic Day Of All Time

Taylor Swift is probably the most famous person in the world. She’s also pop’s queen of Easter eggs and subliminal references, and when she drops a new song, everyone queues up to unpack the lyrics. When she drops 31 of them, crazy things happen.

Last Friday, with the release of Swift’s 11th studio album, THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT, Genius had its biggest traffic day of all time. Prior to POETS, the top traffic day was October 21, 2022, when Taylor blessed us with Midnights, her previous album (that wasn’t a re-release). That day, Genius racked up 15 million total song page visits, a bonkers number that’s still nothing compared to last Friday.

Thanks almost entirely to POETS, Genius logged over 40 million song views on April 19. Of the album’s 31 songs, more than half have amassed over a million views, and almost a quarter are at or near two million. Whether you think the album is mid or magnificent, there’s no doubting Taylor’s hold on popular culture. Where it goes from here is anyone’s guess.
